Spain regains the number one spot in the FIFA ranking for women’s national teams after the European runner-up finish

Madrid (EFE).- Spain has regained the number one spot in the FIFA world ranking of women’s national football teams ahead of the United States, after the European runner-up achieved last July, in which they lost the final on penalties against England.

Spain, which was already the leader of the ranking between December 2023 and June of last year, adds 2066.79 points, with a narrow advantage over the American team, with 2065.06, while Sweden rises to third position with 2025.26.

England, which revalidated the continental title against Montse Tomé’s team in the final held on July 27 in Basel, is fourth in the FIFA ranking, with 2022.64 points, while Germany is fifth (2011.56).

In the previous ranking, published on June 12, Spain occupied second place with 2034.34 points, behind the United States (2057.19) and ahead of Germany (2030.88). The performance of the Spanish national team in the European Championship, in which they did not lose any match, except in the penalty shootout against the English after the 1-1, and was the one that scored the most goals, has allowed them to displace the United States, which had dominated the ranking since August 2024. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) congratulated itself that Spain, current world and Nations League champion, is back at the top after a “brilliant” European Championship that has allowed it to consolidate as “a leading sports project at the world level”.
