PUNTA CANA. A commission from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) visited the Dominican Republic with the objective of evaluating and monitoring the organizational conditions and logistics of the work for the 147th session of the international body scheduled to be held in the country in 2027.
The IOC members, who were in the country for four days, were welcomed by Mr. Felipe Vicini, president of Creso; Luis Mejía Oviedo, IOC member; Garibaldy Bautista, head of the COD, as well as Angie Bergés, Tuto Guerrero, Julissa Rosario, and Gissel Chain, members of the organizing committee for the assembly setup.
The commission was composed of Panos Tzivanidis, Director of the IOC Corporate Events and Services department; Line Cuanillon, Project Leader for Corporate Events and Services, and Sylvia Courtine Deputy, Corporate Director of Events and Services.
The work sessions, held at the recently inaugurated Moon Palace hotel in Punta Cana, also included a meeting with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, at the Westin hotel in Punta Cana, who guaranteed the support of the ministry he leads for the organization of the assembly.

The program for the IOC members’ visit included an inspection of the halls where the different assembly events will take place, as well as meetings with personnel involved in the process, and a meeting with Paola Rainieri, Vice President of Grupo Puntacana, for the coordination of airport and tourist area logistics.
“We held a working meeting in Punta Cana with the organizing committee for the 2027 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session, one of the most important gatherings in world sports, to continue advancing the preparations for this great event that will showcase the Dominican Republic to the world,” posted Tourism Minister David Collado on his social media.”
The commission was favorably impressed by the quality of the facilities available, and the availability and support provided by the authorities.

The work of the organizing committee for the IOC assembly session is supported by the members of the COD executive committee, who highlighted, through their president, that they will continue working to ensure a successful organization, in line with the international standards required by the Olympic movement.
The celebration of the IOC Session in Dominican territory represents a historic event for the country, as it will be the first time that the Dominican Republic will host the highest meeting of the world Olympic body and the second time in the Caribbean in its entire Olympic history.
