King Felipe VI welcomed Spain’s national football team after its victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, congratulating the players for bringing another world title to the country.
Addressing the squad, the monarch highlighted the significance of the achievement and noted that Spain is now the reigning world champion in both men’s and women’s football.
“Sixteen years later, Spain are world champions again thanks to all of you. Today we can say that we are the reigning men’s and women’s world champions: in 2026 and in 2023,” King Felipe VI said during the reception.
Spain secured its second FIFA World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final, ending a 16-year wait since lifting the trophy in 2010.
