Lionel Messi shared an emotional message on social media following Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, acknowledging the pain of the loss while praising his teammates for their effort throughout the tournament.
“The pain is enormous, and it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also choose to remember all the good things… The matches we turned around by giving everything we had will stay in our memories forever, along with the support of an entire country that helped us once again become one of the best teams in the world,” Messi wrote.
The Argentina captain also urged fans to recognize what the team has accomplished in recent years, highlighting that Lionel Scaloni’s squad reached its second consecutive World Cup final.
“Today it’s difficult to appreciate what we achieved, but this group reached two consecutive World Cup finals,” Messi added.
