Santiago de los Caballeros. – The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, delivered one million 300 thousand pesos as a contribution from the Dominican Government for the 45th International Independence Boxing Cup, which is being held in this city.

Cruz reaffirmed his commitment to the development of national boxing during his participation in the inauguration of the event, held in the roofed area of the Club Cupes, in the Los Pepines sector. The official highlighted the continued support of the Ministry of Sports for this traditional international event, while acknowledging the work of the sports and municipal authorities who have contributed to the strengthening of this discipline in the province of Santiago. Cruz recalled that last year the Ministry supported the 44th edition with a contribution of one million pesos, as a sign of the institutional commitment to the development of boxing. "More than the amount, what matters is the commitment. Boxing will not be orphaned. It has the Ministry of Sports here in Santiago, in the capital and throughout the Dominican Republic," said the minister. The Sports headline also highlighted that nine countries are participating in this edition, which consolidates the Dominican Republic as a benchmark for boxing in the region. "In the difficult times of Dominican sports, boxing has always been present. Today is the time for the Government and the Ministry of Sports to be present with boxing," he stated. The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Garibaldi Bautista; the president of the Dominican Boxing Federation, Rubén García; the president of the Santiago Boxing Association, Miguel Martínez; as well as municipal authorities, vice ministers and sports leaders. The International Independence Boxing Cup is one of the most traditional events on the national sports calendar and brings together foreign delegations that raise the competitive level and strengthen sports exchange in the region.
