Ministry of Sports reports: “Félix Sánchez” Olympic Stadium is closed for activities involving the use of the field or track

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Sports and Recreation informed the public that the “Félix Sánchez” Olympic Stadium is closed for the organization of public activities that involve the use of the field or the track area, due to the reconstruction work that is being carried out with a view to the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.

Through a statement, the Ministry clarified that the uses that have been allowed so far in the midst of the reconstruction of the Stadium have been in accordance with a rigorous schedule prepared with the engineers and technicians working on the installation, understanding that it is the only one of its kind available in the country. “The current work schedule only contemplates one available space that has been reserved well in advance for a presentation by the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny,” declared the institution. He added that, in addition, the celebration of the religious activity Battle of Faith has been authorized for January 1st, “with the condition that the public will only be able to access the grandstand area, isolating the interior areas where work is being done on the track,” says the statement.

The Remodeling

The work schedule involves preparing the ground prior to the installation of the track and the modern athletics equipment, which is the phase currently being worked on with the intention of achieving category one qualification, so that the country is in a position to host world-class athletics events. In the central part of the installation, where the football field operates, some specific interventions will also be carried out for the installation of the necessary equipment for the athletics competitions. It is reminded that this same area is used for a series of athletics modalities that are properly on the ground. Therefore, he insisted that “no authorizations have been granted for the use of the Olympic Stadium, except those previously granted according to the schedule prepared by the technicians and engineers and mentioned in this informative note”. Once the works are finished, the Olympic Stadium will be made available to the Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games for the event setup, which will be held from July 24 to August 8, 2026, and the test and certification competitions by World Athletics.
