Santo Domingo.- The National Police is investigating the circumstances in which the young baseball prospect Gustavo Talmar, 14 years old, died, whose body was found on Friday night in a lagoon located in the El Toro de Guerra area, behind a sports training academy.
According to a preliminary report from the Santo Domingo Este Regional Directorate, the teenager died of asphyxiation by immersion (drowning), after allegedly falling into the lagoon while looking for fruit, although the authorities have not yet given this version as definitive.

The case was taken over by the Homicide Investigation Department, which is gathering testimonies and evidence to determine how and why the young man arrived at the scene. According to information provided by the Amaury Nina Academy, where Talmaré was training as a baseball player, the young man had participated in a practice game on Friday afternoon and, as usual, was dismissed along with other teammates at the end of the day. The academy indicated that they later learned that some players went to the area where the tragedy occurred, about 40 minutes from the complex, without the authorization of the coaches or adult supervision. "We do not have exact details of what Gustavo was doing in that place. The authorities are conducting the corresponding investigations, and as an academy we are collaborating in everything necessary," said Amaury Nina, director of the academy. The National Police reported this Saturday that the case is under investigation and called for prudence while the facts are clarified. Although the hypothesis that the young man accidentally fell into the lagoon has been considered, no possibility is ruled out.
