RD adds silver and two bronzes on the fifth day of the Bolivarian Games

LIMA, Peru. The Dominican Republic delegation closed this Thursday the fifth day of the XX Bolivarian Sports Games with a harvest of three medals: one silver and two bronze, in competitions held in Lima and Ayacucho.

The women's badminton doubles, made up of Nairobi Jiménez and Clarissa Confident, won the silver medal, while the women's softball team conquered the bronze after defeating Bolivia. In sailing, Samuel Pérez Camacho added another third-place medal in the IQFOIL modality. With these results, the Dominican Republic accumulates 14 medals (1 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze), occupying the eighth position of the general medal table. For this Friday, the action resumes with the start of the taekwondo tournament in Ayacucho, and the men's field hockey team will advance to the medal definition round.

WOMEN'S SOFTBALL

RD wins bronze by knockout** The Dominican team defeated Bolivia 10-0 to take the bronze medal in the women's softball tournament, in action played at the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Complex. The stellar pitcher Eduarda Rocha shone by throwing a no-hitter for four innings, giving two walks and striking out three, to decree the knockout in the fourth inning. The Dominican offense connected 13 hits. Among the most outstanding were:
  • Emmy Segura: 3-2, four RBIs and one run.
  • Brianna Estévez: 3-2, two runs and one RBI.
  • Felicia de los Santos: 3-3, one run and one RBI.
  • Claudia Santana: 3-2.
  • Anabel Ulloa: 2-1, two runs and a walk.
The Criollas concluded with a record of 4-3, retaining the bronze achieved in the Bicentennial Bolivarian Games previously held in Ayacucho-Lima.

BADMINTON

Nairobi and Clarissa secure silver** The Dominican duo of Nairobi Jiménez and Clarissa Confident won the silver medal after falling in the women's doubles final against the Guatemalans Nikte Sotomayor and Diana Corletto with scores of 21-11 and 21-15. The coach Maikel Moreno highlighted the team's progress, emphasizing that this result is part of the recovery process of Dominican badminton. To reach the final, Jiménez and Confident defeated the Colombian pair Juliana Giraldó Andrade and Karen Patiño 2-1 in the semifinals, and in the quarterfinals they beat the Salvadorans Daniel Hernández and Fátima Centeno 2-0.

Samuel Pérez Camacho conquers bronze in IQFOIL** In Paracas Bay, the Dominican Samuel Antonio Pérez Camacho took to the podium after winning the bronze medal in the IQFOIL sailing modality. Pérez Camacho finished with a time of 21 minutes and a net score of 18, after a consistent performance throughout the eight rounds of the event. The gold went to the Venezuelan José Gregorio Estredo Pérez, while the silver went to the Peruvian Bruno Mendoza Orihula.

FIELD HOCKEY

The Dominican Republic men's team fell 6-2 to Venezuela in the pre-semifinal phase, in a match held at the Villa del Triunfo. The Dominican team occupies the third overall position with six points (2-2), behind Chile and Venezuela. The Quisqueyans scored through Francisco Javier García, responsible for the two goals. The medal matches will be played this Friday: the bronze at 11:00 a.m. (12:00 p.m. RD) and the gold at 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. RD).

CANOEING

The Dominican quartet made up of Ariel Martínez Jiménez, Cristian Guerrero García, Juan Plasencia Feliz and Rafael Feliz Abreu finished in fourth position in the K4 200m kayak modality, recording a time of 34.17 seconds. In K2 200m, Cristian Guerrero and Rafael Enrique Feliz Abreu also took fourth place with a time of 35.97 seconds
