San Juan.- Former Puerto Rican baseball player of the Major Leagues Santos Alomar Conde, father of Sandy and Roberto Alomar, passed away this Monday at the age of 81, which leaves Puerto Rican baseball in mourning.

"We deeply regret the passing of Santos Alomar Conde, an emblematic figure in national baseball and patriarch of the renowned Alomar family," expressed the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR) on social media. His sons are former Major League catcher and current Cleveland Guardians coach Sandy Alomar Jr., and Hall of Fame second baseman Roberto Alomar. "On behalf of our president José Daniel Quiles and all the members of the Federation, we join in the pain of their families, loved ones, and their beloved people of Salinas," indicated the FBPR. According to preliminary information, Alomar Conde was in an establishment in his town of Salinas, in the south of the island, when he collapsed and died. Alomar Conde debuted in the Major Leagues in 1964 and played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers. Subsequently, he was a coach for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, and San Diego Padres.
