San Juan de la Maguana,. – The lawyer for Major League baseball player Wander Franco denied this Sunday that his client was in illegal possession of a firearm, as the Public Prosecutor's Office has alleged.
The lawyer Teodocio Jáquez explained that the gun in question belongs to the player's uncle and was stored in the vehicle's glove compartment at the time of the incident, without Franco's knowledge of its presence.
The lawyer detailed that, as soon as the owner of the weapon learned of the case, he voluntarily appeared before the Prosecutor's Office of San Juan de la Maguana with the corresponding documents: carrying and possession license, as well as its current renewal.“Wander never used that weapon, he didn't even know it was inside the vehicle. It was a fortuitous situation beyond his control,” Jáquez stated to the media.
Furthermore, Jáquez insisted that the investigations carried out so far confirm that the baseball player never manipulated the gun, thus reinforcing his argument that Franco did not violate any weapons law.
The Public Ministry has not issued a new statement following the defense attorney's claims. Meanwhile, it is expected that the legal situation of the Dominican player will be defined in the coming days.
