Providence, RI. – The Providence, Rhode Island City Council granted official recognition to Colonel Sonni Cepeda for his outstanding 25-year career in the Dominican National Police and his work as a liaison in Providence and New York. The distinction was approved through a resolution sent to Mayor Brett Smiley, signed by Council President Rachel M. Miller, and all city councilors.
This tribute marks a historic event, as it is the first time a member of the Dominican National Police receives formal recognition in the United States. Colonel Cepeda's achievement reflects the strategic vision of the Director General of Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, to strengthen institutional cooperation with American cities with a high presence of Dominicans.

The tribute also reflects the impetus of the institution's Directorate of Cooperation and International Relations, under the direction of Colonel Catano Martinez, in strengthening ties with cities abroad and protecting Dominicans residing outside the country.
