Puerto Plata.– The Punta Bergantín project is advancing in the implementation of a nursery for native and endemic species that includes the planting of 1,260 trees and the incorporation of 355 specimens of threatened species, as part of an environmental conservation and restoration plan that seeks to preserve the natural resources of the North Coast.

The initiative is being developed in coordination with the Provincial Directorate of Environment of Puerto Plata and the Botanical Garden of Santiago, institutions that collaborate in the identification, reproduction, and protection of species of high ecological value for the region.

According to the project, the nursery will serve as a tool for the recovery of intervened areas and the protection of vulnerable species, contributing to the strengthening of environmental sustainability actions linked to the tourism development of the area.

Leonela Vólquez, Director of Community, Sustainability, and Research at Punta Bergantín, explained that the nursery represents a long-term investment aimed at regenerating landscapes, preserving biodiversity, and promoting environmental education.

“The Punta Bergantín nursery constitutes a living base to regenerate landscapes, protect species, and accompany the growth of the North coast under a model where nature is an essential part of development,” he stated.

The executive highlighted that the initiative seeks to ensure that the growth of the tourism project is accompanied by concrete measures for ecological conservation and restoration.

Among the planned actions is the collection and preservation of 11 species included in the red list of flora in danger of extinction or in a critical state, which will be protected during the first stage of the nursery’s operation.

Project authorities pointed out that this infrastructure is part of the Environmental Management Plan and the Punta Bergantín Tree Transplantation, Compensation, and Reforestation Plan, instruments designed to guide environmental protection and sustainability actions in the area.

With this initiative, Punta Bergantín seeks to integrate the conservation of natural resources into the tourism development of Puerto Plata, promoting a model that combines economic growth and the protection of ecological heritage.
