Santo Domingo.- The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) kicked off this Friday the 44th edition of the Tony Barreiro Games, in a ceremony held in the homonymous sports center of the main campus and presided over by the rector Editrudis Beltrán.
The competition will bring together hundreds of student-athletes in more than 20 sports disciplines, standing out for its spirit of integration and promotion of university sports.This edition is dedicated to Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo), General Director of Customs, in recognition of his support for sports at UASD and nationally. During the event, Sanz Lovatón received a recognition plaque, which he thanked the university authorities and the athletes present for.

The rector Beltrán highlighted the university's pride in celebrating these traditional games, as well as the massive participation of the athletes and the support of the honoree. “We are going to continue raising the pride of being a UASDian”, he stated. For his part, the Director of Sports, Julio Gómez, valued the enthusiasm of coaches, monitors and athletes, thanking the rector for his support in organizing the event. The Olympic flame was lit by the outstanding taekwondo athlete Mayelín Mejía, a member of the national team, thus marking the official start of the competitions that will last for 14 days on the university campus.
