"We have sent Fortnite to Apple for review so that we can launch it on the App Store within the U.S.," they reported this Friday from the account of the video game itself, Fortnite, on the social network X.
This game, which has always been in the world's top 2 by number of users since 2018, was removed from the App Store in 2020, after Epic Games updated it and included in its mobile version a link that redirected to its website to bill its own sales there.
The maneuver sought to avoid any commission from Apple for sales or downloads of content or exclusive improvements to Fortnite.
And it is that Apple pockets between 15% and 30% of the purchases made through its integrated payment system in the 'app'.
However, this decision by Epic Games caused the bitten apple company to ban it from its online application store, leading to a lawsuit that had its last resolution last month.
So, a court ruled that Apple could not charge commissions for external sales from its platform or tax those companies that put links within the App Store, agreeing with Epic Games.
Now it's Apple's turn, which has appealed the ruling and could still reject Epic Games' request, to consider whether Fornite is once again available on its service for the United States.
Epic Games also sued Google, operator of the Android phone Play Store, for similar reasons.
Fortnite is available for iPhone in Europe, where third-party applications are regulated under the Digital Markets Act, since last year through the Epic Games online store.
This video game currently has about 250 million active users, reaching the record figure of 350 million players years ago.
