This infrastructure will make the Dominican Republic Google's gateway to the region. The project includes a world-class data hub, submarine cables that will connect to data centers in the United States, and the strengthening of the country as a strategic hub for digital connectivity between North, Central, and South America, substantially increasing national competitiveness for technological investment. In the realm of emerging sectors, the Head of State also announced the signing of a historic agreement with the American company LOD Holdings for the development of a commercial spaceport in Oviedo, Pedernales province, after more than three years of negotiations. The initiative, with an investment exceeding US$600 million, opens the doors of the Dominican Republic to the global space economy, marking a milestone in the region.

“The country is not only consolidating itself as a tourist and logistics hub, but as a nation that is committed to the future, to technology, Artificial Intelligence and the economy of the next generation,” affirmed President Abinader, highlighting that major global technological players today see in the Dominican Republic a safe platform to innovate, invest and grow.

In that sense, without mentioning the date of implementation of this initiative, he said that before May 2028 a satellite or a rocket will be launched into space from the southern province of Pedernales. "Burton Catledge was for decades NASA's Director of Operations and brings a specialized team with North American investment funds," expressed Abinader about the foreign investor, who was in the National Assembly hall. With these actions, the Government assumes the commitment to position the country on the path of knowledge, innovation and sustainable development, strengthening its regional leadership in the new digital economy.
