Santo Domingo.– Internet access in Dominican households reaches 56.2% of homes, according to the results of the National Multi-Purpose Household Survey (ENHOGAR-MICS 2025), a study that highlights the existing gaps in access to information and communication technologies in the country.
The research, prepared by the National Statistics Office (ONE), with the technical support of UNICEF and the Superintendence of Health and Labor Risks (SISALRIL), points out that, although access to mobile devices is high, connectivity in households still presents significant challenges in different regions of the national territory.
Internet access
The report shows significant geographical differences. Cibao Norte records the highest percentage of households with internet access, at 67.7%, followed by Ozama or Metropolitan (62.0%), Cibao Noroeste (59.6%), and Cibao Sur (59.1%).
In contrast, the lowest coverage corresponds to Enriquillo (39.4%), Valdesia (40.6%), and El Valle (41.7%).
The survey also reflects a marked difference between urban and rural areas. While 60.2% of urban households have internet service, in rural communities the proportion drops to 45.5%, which evidences a gap of almost 15 percentage points in internet access.

Internet access
The results also indicate that access to the service is closely related to socioeconomic conditions and educational level. In households where the head has a university or higher education, coverage reaches 79.0%, while among those with a preschool or initial level, it barely reaches 27.3%.
Likewise, 93.3% of households in the highest income quintile have the service, compared to only 15.9% of the lowest income quintile.

Despite these differences, the study highlights that the use of mobile devices is widespread in the country. 92.7% of households own at least one mobile phone and 89.4% have smartphones, which reflects a high availability of equipment, although not necessarily of internet access in the homes.
The ENHOGAR-MICS 2025 constitutes one of the main sources of statistical information for the design of public policies in the Dominican Republic. The survey was conducted on a probabilistic sample of 35,238 dwellings, from which an effective sample of 29,676 households was obtained, with a response rate of 98.6%.
