Santo Domingo. - The Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET) forecasts that the high-pressure system will continue to limit the development of significant clouds over a large part of the national territory; only in some sectors of the southwest could isolated showers occur, associated with the dragging of clouds by the wind. However, in the afternoon, the incidence of a trough, combined with local effects, will favor the occurrence of locally moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts in provinces such as Santiago, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde, San Juan, and Elías Piña, among others nearby. Meanwhile, in the provinces of the east and southeast regions, short-lived showers are expected, present until the early hours of the night, after which the sky will again become scattered clouds.
Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico or America:
Hurricane Humberto is located 475 km west/northwest of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h with higher gusts. It is moving north at 28 km/h. This weather system poses no threat to the Dominican Republic.
Hurricane Imelda is located about 1170 km west/southwest of Bermuda, with winds of 140 km/h with higher gusts. It is moving east/northeast at 19 km/h. Due to its position and movement, it does not pose a threat to the country.
National District: scattered clouds, no rain is expected.
Santo Domingo Norte: isolated clouds.
Santo Domingo Este: scattered clouds.
Santo Domingo Oeste: scattered clouds.
Temperatures: the minimum will be between 21 °C and 23 °C and the maximum between 32 °C and 34 °C.
Summary: Trough associated with the diurnal cycle produced cloudy conditions with showers, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts inland, until nightfall... Both coasts are normal... Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda pose no threat to the Dominican Republic.
For Thursday, a morning with mostly clear skies and little cloud cover is forecast over a large part of the national territory. However, in the afternoon, cloud cover increases are expected that will generate locally moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts towards provinces of the Cibao, the Central Mountain Range and the border area, especially Santiago, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, La Vega, San Juan and Elías Piña. These precipitations will be associated with the incidence of a trough and the local effects of daytime heating and orography. At nightfall, the rains will tend to decrease.
National District: mostly sunny skies with slight cloud increases.
Santo Domingo: mostly sunny skies with slight cloud increases.
