Santo Domingo. – The National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that for this Sunday, humidity and instability will persist over a large part of the national territory, due to an upper-level trough and the incidence of a tropical wave that is currently over Puerto Rico. In the morning hours, cloudy increases are expected with scattered showers towards provinces in the east and south of the country such as La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, La Altagracia, Peravia and Azua. However, it will be after midday when the effects of the heat and the diurnal cycle favor an increase in cloudiness, generating heavy showers in isolated points, thunderstorms and gusts of wind, especially in Independencia, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Azua, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Monte Plata and Hato Mayor.

During the night, some scattered showers could persist over the Cibao Valley and the southeast zone, dissipating in the early morning. For Monday, the sky will dawn with scattered clouds and light rainfall. However, in the afternoon, showers and isolated thunderstorms will return due to the remnants of humidity left by the tropical wave and the effects of the trough, which will begin to weaken. The rains will concentrate in provinces of the southwest, the Cibao and the north, including Puerto Plata, Duarte, San Cristóbal and San José de Ocoa, extending until the early hours of the night.

Cyclonic Activity

Regarding cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, a tropical wave is forecast to emerge in the coming days from the west coast of Africa, with a 30% probability of development in the next seven days.

Intense Heat

The Onamet warned that temperatures will remain quite hot, a product of the time of year and the warm southeast wind. Therefore, it reiterated the recommendations to the population to drink plenty of water, wear light-colored clothing, stay in cool places and avoid exposure to the sun between 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon, especially in the case of children, the elderly and people vulnerable to the effects of heat.
