“Te Quiero Ver Campeón” is the new song born from the heart of eleven of the most beloved artists of Colombian popular music: Jessi Uribe, Pipe Bueno, Luis Alfonso, Jhon Alex Castaño, Alzate, Jhonny Rivera, Luisito Muñoz, Ciro Quiñonez, Arelys Henao, Francy and Paola Jara. Together they created what they hope will become the unofficial anthem of the Colombian National Team for the FIFA World Cup. This is not an official FIFA production. There is no brand behind it, no federative endorsement, no corporate backing. Eleven artists invested their own time and money because they believed that the people of Colombia deserved a song that truly sounded like them. As Uribe himself explains: “I intended to unite the artists of Colombian popular music in a single song for our National Team. A song that would not only sound, but also be felt. That would represent the real country: that of the lady in the store, that of the sancocho with the family, that of the people who vibrate with what is ours.” The song’s chorus captures that spirit head-on: My fever went up but for the tricolor / Put in the faith that Colombia shouts goal / 50 million but only one heart / Give me a joy because I want to see you champion.

The road to the song was not without pain. Yeison Jiménez, one of the most beloved and influential artists of Colombian popular music, had been one of the first to join the project. It was Alzate who insisted on calling him, who told Jessi: call him and invite him. And Yeison, from a farm, listened to the song and said yes immediately. That’s how he was. That’s how big his heart was for anything from Colombia and for his own. Shortly after, the genre and the entire country would lose him in a plane crash that shook Colombia to its core. For the artists of this project, it was a deeply personal mourning, and the blow almost froze everything. But as the days went on, the group found a way to resume what they had started together, turning the song, without intending to, into something that also bears his name between the lines.

What had begun as an informal roast with matching t-shirts transformed into a large-scale production: professionally filmed in the colorful communes of Medellín by the Saruma team, with a vision as big as the country it represents.

I WANT TO SEE YOU AS CHAMPION

Produced by Simón Bauti, the song is built on a cumbia rhythm, the same pulse that lives in the stands of the most passionate football clubs in Colombia. Nacional, Millonarios and Santa Fe fans know that sound. It runs through their chants, their marches and their celebrations. For Alzate, that was the central point: the Colombian National Team had never had a song that truly belonged to the people. This one does. “When music is born from the real, it becomes something eternal,” said Uribe. The video, filmed in the most colorful and historic communes of Medellín, is a love letter to the Colombia that doesn’t appear on the first pages but fills the stadiums, living rooms, and family tables where each match becomes a national event. Giant murals of women with the flag painted on their faces and flowers in their hair. Stairs intervened with red, blue, and yellow that ascend towards the sky as if the entire neighborhood were a hymn. Narrow alleys decorated with flags of all colors where two friends walk laughing, as if the world were theirs. A neighborhood store dressed in tricolor, full of people with beers in hand and arms raised, singing at the top of their lungs with shirts that say “Parce” and “Colombia is a chimba”. A soccer ball rolling alone down the stairs of the commune, as if reminding us where all this comes from. The Colombia that shouts goal from a patio, that cries with an elimination and believes again the next day. The one that sings even if it suffers, and that never, never stops believing.
