Santo Domingo.– A total of 18 flights were canceled at the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA) between July 18 and 20, due to weather conditions affecting the northeastern United States, Aerodom reported.
The cancellations correspond to 10 arrival flights and eight departure flights, on routes connecting Santo Domingo with John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport in New York, and Newark Liberty (EWR) in New Jersey.
As a consequence of these interruptions, 2,530 passengers have been affected, being unable to make their trips as scheduled. Many of them went to AILA this Monday to manage the rescheduling of their flights or to look for availability on upcoming departures.
At the airport terminal, long lines were observed at airline counters, where travelers received assistance to modify their itineraries while waiting for weather conditions to improve in the northeastern United States.
Aerodom explained that the cancellations are due to operational restrictions caused by bad weather in that U.S. region, which has forced airlines to temporarily suspend several international connections.
