Abinader and Scotiabank reaffirm dialogue on the strategic role of banking in the country's development

Santo Domingo.– The executive president of Scotiabank República Dominicana and Caribe, Jabar Singh, held a meeting with President Luis Abinader, in which they discussed the strategic role of the country within the global vision of the financial institution and its contribution to economic and social development.

During the meeting, Singh reaffirmed the bank's long-term commitment to the Dominican Republic, highlighting that the nation holds a key place in its regional strategy, supported by its macroeconomic stability, dynamism, and growing integration into international trade and investment. The meeting also served to highlight Scotiabank's 105 years of uninterrupted presence in the country, as well as its recent performance, closing the year 2025 with a net profit of RD$2.699 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 55%, consolidating as the third private bank by credit and deposit portfolio, with assets amounting to RD$180 billion.

Singh highlighted the Dominican economic environment, pointing out the growth of foreign direct investment, which in 2025 exceeded US$5 billion, as well as the GDP expansion prospects close to 4%, which defines the country as a growth pole in the region. "The Dominican Republic is not just a market, but a long-term commitment for Scotiabank. Our vision is to continue supporting the country through alliances that promote competitiveness, financial inclusion, and sustainable investment," said the executive. Likewise, he reiterated the entity's interest in continuing to be a strategic partner of the Dominican State, contributing its financial capacity, technical experience, and global knowledge for the development of financial solutions and risk management.
