Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader stated this Friday that the Government has significantly reinforced security at the border with Haiti due to the instability that country is experiencing, while highlighting the progress made by the Dominican military industry in the manufacturing and assembly of equipment for the Armed Forces.
During an event at the San Isidro Air Base, the president pointed out that the Dominican Republic shares a border with “one of the most unstable countries in the world,” which is why his administration has strengthened border surveillance with the incorporation of armored vehicles, weaponry, drones, and aircraft that carry out supervision tasks on a permanent basis.
“That is why we have kept it at peace when on the other side it is in conflict,” expressed the head of state when referring to the measures implemented to guarantee security in the border area.
Abinader also highlighted the development of the national military industry, ensuring that the country is among the most advanced in Central America and the Caribbean in that area and on its way to reaching the level of other Latin American nations.

The ruler highlighted the assembly of aircraft, as well as Furia military vehicles, indicating that both have sparked interest from other countries, with which, he said, there are already negotiations for a possible acquisition.

Likewise, he announced that the Dominican military industry is preparing to begin the assembly of drones, which, he assured, will allow for the strengthening of defense capabilities and generate savings for the State by reducing dependence on imported equipment.
Regarding citizen security, Abinader reported that the Government is in the process of bidding for the acquisition of more than 760 vehicles and nearly 60 trucks for the National Police, as part of what he described as the largest purchase of equipment made by that institution, with the aim of strengthening internal security.
The president congratulated the Ministry of Defense and the Military Industry for the progress made in the adaptation and assembly of vehicles and equipment, and assured that the Dominican Armed Forces today have a level of equipment not seen in decades.
