Actress and producer Susan Kendall Newman, daughter of Paul Newman and his first wife, Jacqueline Witte, has died at the age of 72 from complications of the chronic health problems she suffered from.
Although the actress passed away on August 2, her family has only announced it now, as noted by the specialized media outlet The Hollywood Reporter.
Newman's most prominent role was in 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' (1978), directed by Robert Zemeckis, and he participated in films such as 'Slap Shot' (1977), starring his father, or 'A Wedding' (1978), by Robert Altman.
He also worked in production, with works such as the TV movie 'The Shadow Box' ('La caja oscura', 1980), directed by his father and starring the actor's second wife, Joanne Woodward.
For that film, she received an Emmy nomination for Best Dramatic Special.
She was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for a series of audiobooks of classic literature.
In 1980, he began working at the Scott Newman Foundation, created by his father after the death of his brother Scott from an overdose.
As an expert in drug abuse prevention, she testified before Congress and was a frequent speaker at the Betty Ford Center, as well as at universities, hospitals, and community groups.
