Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Agriculture and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) signed an addendum to the technical cooperation agreement that will allow for the strengthening of the National Program for Agricultural Production Mechanization (Pronamec) and promote the incorporation of new technologies in the agricultural sector.
The agreement seeks to expand the scope of actions aimed at modernizing the Dominican countryside through the use of machinery, precision agriculture, and technological tools that contribute to improving the productivity and competitiveness of producers.
The Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat, stated that the initiative consolidates the collaboration between both institutions to promote more efficient, innovative, and sustainable agriculture, aligned with the strategy of President Luis Abinader‘s government to strengthen the development of the sector.

Espaillat noted that IICA’s technical support will facilitate the incorporation of new technologies, the training of producers and technicians, as well as the strengthening of institutional capacities to offer more efficient services to the agricultural sector.
For her part, the IICA representative in the Dominican Republic, Gabriela Quiroga Gilardoni, highlighted the progress the country has made in terms of agricultural mechanization and innovation, while also valuing the joint work to promote a more resilient agriculture adapted to current challenges.
The addendum to the agreement will provide continuity to strategic projects focused on mechanization, technological innovation, and the strengthening of sector capabilities, with the goal of promoting a more modern, sustainable, and competitive production model for the Dominican countryside.
