Paris.- At least two people have died and 53,000 homes remain without power as a result of the storm system that France has experienced in the last few hours following the third major heatwave of the year.
The deaths took place in the departments of Haute-Vienne (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, in the west-central area of France) and in Isère (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the southeast of the country), the newspaper Le Parisien reported this Friday.
The first victim was a woman in her 30s who died due to a falling tree on Thursday afternoon.
The second, a 37-year-old man whose body was found charred at night, in a workshop that caught fire due to a lightning strike.
Thousands of homes without electricity
In addition, about 53,000 households have been affected by power outages as a result of the violent storms that began on Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday, mainly in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions, according to Enedis, the company that manages the electricity distribution network.

The weather situation is expected to stabilize throughout the day, a day for which Météo-France has already lifted the last orange alert warnings (the second highest level) for storms.
