Barcelona .- Emergency teams located this Tuesday the bodies of two 11-year-old twins who drowned in the Ter River as it passes through Manlleu (Barcelona).
According to police sources who informed EFE, the Mossos d’Esquadra received a report around 1:00 a.m. from the local police of Manlleu (Barcelona) stating that two eleven-year-old twins, who had gone out to play soccer at dusk, had not returned home.
For this reason, emergency teams established an extensive search operation in the areas frequented by the two twins, until around 1:00 p.m. they found the first body and around 2:00 p.m. the second, both in the bed of the Ter River.
Pending fingerprint tests to confirm their identity, the description of the two 11-year-old twins -from a family originally from Ghana- matches that of the two bodies found, which will be transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia to perform autopsies and identify them.
Initial hypotheses point to an accidental drowning
The Mossos have opened an investigation to clarify what happened, in a case where initial hypotheses point to both minors drowning accidentally, according to sources.
In a message on his X account, the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, expressed he was “shocked” by the “tragic death of two eleven-year-old brothers in the Ter River, in Manlleu”.
“All my support and condolences to their family and friends in these very difficult moments,” added the Catalan president.
In the search operation, the Mossos d’Esquadra used drones and activated agents from the underwater unit, given the suspicion that they could have drowned in the river.

Around 11:30 a.m., the search team located clothing in the area that matched what the twins were wearing, and a few hours later they located the two bodies.
Around 3:30 p.m., the judicial delegation proceeded to remove the bodies, according to sources.
Duel in Manlleu
The Manlleu City Council has expressed its “deepest regret for the tragic loss of two children who have lost their lives in the Ter River” and conveys its support and “most sincere condolences to their family, friends, and the entire community affected by this irreparable loss.”
The City Council has decreed two days of mourning, during which flags will fly at half-mast as a sign of respect and remembrance for the minors.
The residents of Manlleu are summoned at 8:00 PM tomorrow to observe a minute of silence in memory and tribute to the minors.
The City Council asks the public for “respect, avoiding the dissemination of unverified information.”
The municipality of the neighboring town of Torello, which is also part of the Osona region, has expressed its condolences for the death of the twins and has shown solidarity with their relatives and the residents of Manlleu.
