Following her tour of Quintana Roo, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed her attendance at the closing match of the 2026 World Cup, Spain versus Argentina, at the New York New Jersey Stadium, which will take place next Sunday at 1:00 PM (Central Mexico time).
In a brief meeting with the media, the Mexican president shared that she received a direct invitation from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, noting that the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, will also attend.
“We have already set aside the tickets,” said the Mexican president, assuring that she will provide more details about her attendance at the event tomorrow, July 18. She also added that her return could be scheduled for Monday.
After more than a month of matches in stadiums across Mexico, the United States, and Canada, those who will compete in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the national teams of Spain and Argentina, after having emerged victorious in 7 matches, three in the Group Stage and four in the Knockout Stage.

She reiterated that, although she considers the opportunity positive, the country should only move forward if an advantageous scenario is guaranteed. “We must always seek favorable conditions for Mexico. But it would be, I think, good for Mexico in general,” she added.
