Santo Domingo. — The Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised to eight the number of provinces under green alert this Monday due to the rains forecast for the coming hours, which could cause urban flooding, as well as the swelling of rivers, streams, and creeks.
The demarcations included in the measure are San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, La Vega, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, and the National District.
The decision was adopted based on the report from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), which forecasts moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts in different areas of the country.
Given this situation, the emergency agency urged citizens to remain attentive to official bulletins and to follow the recommendations of the authorities, especially those residing in areas vulnerable to flooding or near rivers, streams, and gullies.

The COE also recommended avoiding crossing water currents with high levels and refraining from using swimming areas located in the provinces under alert while adverse weather conditions persist.

Regarding maritime conditions, authorities advised operators of small, medium, and fragile vessels to remain in port along several stretches of the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts due to strong swells.
The agency reported that it will continue to monitor the evolution of atmospheric conditions and, if necessary, will update the alert levels for the provinces that may be affected.
