Colombian influencer Adriana Manotas Rodríguez passed away after undergoing an aesthetic procedure at an establishment that, according to authorities, was operating without the required license or health authorizations in Bogotá. The woman was 52 years old and was known for sharing lifestyle content on social media, where she had accumulated more than 23,000 followers on Facebook.
According to Colombian media reports, Manotas went to the clandestine center to undergo liposuction. However, during the procedure, she experienced health complications that forced her emergency transfer to a Red Cross facility, where she was later declared dead.
Following the death, authorities conducted a raid on the establishment located in the Muzú neighborhood, in the Puente Aranda locality. The inspection confirmed that the place was not registered as a healthcare service provider, lacked authorization to perform medical procedures, and the person listed as the legal representative was not authorized to practice as a health professional. Furthermore, surgical supplies and biological waste were found, evidence pointing to the fact that invasive interventions were being performed there illegally.
The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, lamented the death of the influencer and pointed out that preliminary information indicates that the procedure was performed in a completely clandestine establishment. Meanwhile, the District Health Secretariat ordered the closure of the center and the authorities are continuing investigations to establish the corresponding responsibilities.
The case has reignited the debate in Colombia regarding the risks of undergoing aesthetic procedures in unauthorized establishments and the need to strengthen controls against so-called “clandestine clinics,” which continue to operate despite the sanctions imposed by the authorities.
