Santo Domingo Norte.– Residents of the La Javilla sector, in the Santo Domingo Norte municipality, held a march and a pot-banging protest this Wednesday night to demand the execution of various public works that, according to them, were promised by the authorities and have not yet been carried out.
During the demonstration, community and transport leader Eddy Sánchez called on President Luis Abinader, the governor of the Santo Domingo province, and the mayor of Santo Domingo Norte, Betty Gerónimo, to address the community’s main needs.
Sánchez recalled that the president recently visited the sector and announced the intervention of important works, including the paving of streets and the sanitation of ravines. However, he assured that so far no progress has been recorded.
“Two years of municipal administration have passed and the trash is not even being collected efficiently. We are also still waiting for the completion of a multipurpose center, since we do not have a decent space to meet. We are forced to meet under the trees or rent premises,” he/she expressed.
The leader added that La Javilla lacks a park, a sports court, and a daycare center, which limits development and recreation opportunities for children, youth, and families in the sector.

For his part, Kelvin Díaz, a transporter and member of the Community Coalition, expressed his support for the protest and assured that the community continues to face multiple shortages.
Díaz stated that during the electoral campaign, Mayor Betty Gerónimo promised to resolve issues such as the intervention of the ravines and other works that could be executed through the municipal participatory budget, but, according to him, those commitments have not been fulfilled.
Likewise, resident Yari Acosta expressed the sentiment of the community members by pointing out that they are tired of broken promises.
“We want you to come to our aid. You promised us solutions and you have not delivered. This protest will not stop until our needs are met,” he stated.
The community members reiterated that they will continue to hold protest actions until they receive concrete responses from the authorities regarding the works and services they consider priorities to improve the quality of life in the La Javilla sector.
