Criminals in Russia tried to send drugs to a prison with a cat

Moscow.- Authorities at a penal colony in the Russian region of Nizhny Novgorod today detained a group of criminals who intended to send drugs to a prison with the help of a cat, which was also taken into custody. “Employees of Penal Colony 7 in the Nizhny Novgorod region detained wrongdoers who were trying to smuggle drugs with the help of the feline ‘camellito’,” reported the regional directorate of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) on VKontakte (the Russian Facebook), which published photos of the cat. The FSIN indicated that the criminals “prepared a special collar for the cat, to which they attached a small package”.

“The idea was for the cat to transport the drugs that were in the package to the prisoners. This unusual and sophisticated supply route was thwarted thanks to the professional and coordinated actions of the employees of the penitentiary colony,” the service noted. The criminals were handed over to the Russian police to initiate the criminal proceedings, the FSIN indicated. “The seized substance was identified after the analyses carried out as cannabis (marijuana),” he concluded.
