DR assumes the vice-presidency of the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports for the first time

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic assumed for the first time the First Vice-Presidency of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States, a fact that strengthens the country’s presence in decision-making spaces regarding the port and logistics development of the continent.

The information was released by the Dominican Port Authority, whose executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that the designation took place during the work of the regional commission made up of the port authorities of the OAS member countries.

Rodríguez pointed out that this position will allow the Dominican Republic to actively participate in initiatives linked to port sustainability, technological innovation, port-city integration, the resilience of maritime infrastructure, and the strengthening of regional logistics development.

Likewise, he indicated that the appointment comes at a time when the country is promoting various projects aimed at modernizing and expanding its port infrastructure, with the goal of consolidating itself as a strategic hub for trade and connectivity in the Caribbean.

The Inter-American Committee on Ports constitutes the main hemispheric forum for port cooperation of the OAS and has among its objectives to promote the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of the ports of the Americas through the exchange of experiences, technical assistance, and training programs.

In addition, the organization works on the formulation of policies and strategies aimed at strengthening maritime trade, logistics, and regional connectivity among member countries.

The First Vice Presidency is part of the commission’s management structure and participates in the coordination of projects and initiatives that seek to modernize the region’s port sector.

With this historic designation, the Dominican Republic expands its prominence in international organizations linked to maritime transport and reinforces its commitment to becoming a regional benchmark in logistics and port management.
