Santiago.- Former deputy for La Vega province, Rosa Amalia Pilarte, was transferred on Wednesday afternoon to the Rafey Women’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Santiago, to serve the five-year prison sentence imposed on her for money laundering and other violations.
Pilarte, who in the past held a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, was prosecuted after being linked to illicit operations related to drug trafficking and the irregular handling of funds. Her case had generated wide debate in public opinion, due to her political position and the scope of the accusations.
With Pilarte’s entry into the penitentiary, the authorities assure that the sentence against him is being fulfilled, which also includes other accessory sanctions.
So far, the authorities have not offered further details on the conditions under which the transfer took place or on her current situation in Rafey Women.
