Santo Domingo. - Jesús Díaz, former vice-presidential candidate for the Frente Amplio, denounced that the Ministry of Public Health and the National Health Service (SNS) should immediately intervene in the Oncology Institute of Santiago, considering that it is a public heritage that deserves to be protected and managed efficiently.
Díaz expressed his deep concern about the current situation of the oncology center, which has been the subject of criticism and complaints from patients and health workers.
The former vice-presidential candidate emphasized that the intervention of the Ministry of Public Health must be urgent. Serious complaints from doctors and patients at the center are evident, which draw the attention of the citizenry because it is an institution that operates with a board of trustees with serious irregularities. Most of the members are part of the family circle of the president of the board of trustees."It is unacceptable that a health center so important to the Cibao region is mired in a crisis that directly affects the care and treatment of cancer patients," he stated.

The political leader pointed out that the Public Ministry must investigate the complaints made regarding the Oncology Hospital, since it operates on land that is part of the José María Cabral y Báez Hospital and, therefore, a family group has taken over the institution without internal elections having been held so far."It is unacceptable that in a country like the Dominican Republic, where health is a fundamental right, a medical center like the Oncologist of Santiago is allowed to operate in deficient conditions. We demand that the Ministry of Public Health and the National Health Service take immediate measures to correct this situation and guarantee the quality care that patients deserve," said Jesús Díaz.
