La Caleta.- The Municipal Committees of Frente Amplio, Opción Democrática, and Alianza País in Boca Chica and La Caleta expressed their firm support for the families affected by the evictions being carried out in different sectors of the La Caleta coastline, especially in the Gran Valiente community, while demanding that President Luis Abinader urgently and responsibly address the demands raised by community and human rights organizations.
Political organizations expressed their concern over reports that brigades, accompanied by National Police agents, are carrying out evictions and demolitions of homes, generating fear, uncertainty, and serious social consequences for hundreds of families who have built their homes and communities over decades.
“The right to decent housing is a fundamental human right recognized by the Constitution of the Dominican Republic and by various international instruments signed by the Dominican State. No public policy can ignore this principle or place working families in a situation of defenselessness,” stated Sócrates Orlando Peguero, spokesperson for the parties.
They considered that the conflict must be resolved through dialogue, respect for due process, and the search for solutions that guarantee social peace, avoiding actions that deepen the suffering of the communities.
In that sense, they supported the demands made by community organizations, including the declaration of public utility for the lands occupied by long-standing families, the continuity of titling processes, the suspension of evictions while a definitive solution is built, and the effective protection of the residents’ rights.

Likewise, they called on the Government to open a dialogue table with representatives of the communities, the competent authorities, and social organizations, with the purpose of finding a fair, legal, and humanitarian solution to the conflict.
The municipal committees of the three political organizations reiterated that the development of the La Caleta and Boca Chica municipality cannot be built upon the uprooting of its people, but rather by guaranteeing legal security and respect for the dignity of the families.
