Santo Domingo.- The price of gold rose 31.1% between September 2024 and the same month of 2025, with an average value in the last month of US$3,365.2 per troy ounce, according to data from the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).
The current price of gold exceeded the budgeted estimate of US$3,250.0 per troy ounce by US$115.2 according to the complementary General State Budget (PGE) for the year 2025.
This high price has been a blessing for the Government, as the collections from the export of gold have fiscally compensated for the fall in other productive areas that have registered negative growth so far this year, such as the construction sector.
According to figures from Prodominicana, exports of raw gold this year have grown by more than 53.4%, and have considerably boosted total Dominican exports, which between January and September have exceeded US$10,695.8 million, reaching a year-on-year growth of 10.2%, which marks the highest export record in the first nine months of the year.
So far this year, US$1.596 billion in raw gold has been exported, mainly to India and Canada, and US$49.4 million in other gold derivatives, essentially to the United States.
The Mining Tax registered a notable growth, reaching a collection in January - September 2025 of RD$20,215.6 million, which represents RD$12,215.9 million more compared to January – September 2024.
This growth is explained by the increase in the price of gold and the efficiency in production costs.
The largest contribution to tax collection comes from the Income Tax component of Mining companies, which accounts for 51.1% of the total
Collected from January – September 2025, showing a growth of 38.6%, RD$2,872.9 million more than the previous year.
The second-largest contributing component is the Tax on Mineral Profits (PUN), representing 34.9% of the collection, with a collection from January – September of RD$7,059.8 million, and the third tax is the Net Return from Smelting (RNF), contributing 14.0% of the collection, for January – September with an amount of RD$2,832.4 million.
