Government opens Fotesir call with RD$10 million to rehabilitate irrigation in Vallejuelo

San Juan.- The National Irrigation Technicalization Executive Directorate (TNR), in coordination with the Agricultural Bank (Bagrícola), announced an investment of RD$10 million for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems linked to the Las Dos Bocas dam, benefiting small agricultural producers in Vallejuelo and the municipal district of Jorgillo. The resources will be channeled through the Irrigation System Modernization Promotion Fund (Fotesir), which will grant a non-refundable bonus of up to 70% to the selected projects, with the purpose of recovering and optimizing existing infrastructure, improving water use efficiency, increasing crop productivity, and reducing the environmental impact of agricultural activity. The initiative is part of the Bagri-Riego program, developed jointly with Bagrícola and is part of the public policy aimed at modernizing the Dominican countryside, strengthening the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and guaranteeing higher levels of food security. The deadline for receiving proposals will be open until Monday, March 2, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. You can also read: Claudio Caamaño, director of the TNR, explained that studies conducted by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) and the Water Cabinet show serious limitations in the availability and management of water resources, including the predominance of traditional systems, an irrigation efficiency of less than 22%, and a progressive deterioration in water quality. Caamaño Vélez pointed out that, to face this challenge, the TNR is promoting a public contest in the area of influence of the irrigation system of the Las Dos Bocas dam, in order to support projects that meet the technical and legal requirements established by Fotesir. He added that the previous calls, together with the Bagri-Riego program, have made it possible to reduce the cost of irrigation systems by more than half and accelerate the execution times for producers.

Contest Rules

Small producers, natural or legal persons dedicated to agricultural activity in Vallejuelo and Jorgillo, whose projects do not exceed 100 tareas, may participate in the call. Initiatives for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems or any of their components will be admitted, including regulation, filtration, fertilization, distribution, application works, as well as measurement and control facilities aimed at improving the efficiency in the use of water resources. The proposals will be evaluated by the technical and legal teams of the TNR, who will verify their feasibility, budgetary coherence, and compliance with the established requirements. Subsequently, a preliminary list of admitted, non-admitted, and selected projects will be published, and the results will be announced on the institutional portal riego.gob.do within five business days after the closing of the call, in addition to being disseminated through a notice in a national circulation newspaper.
