An agent of the Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) was wounded by a firearm projectile while attempting to identify a man who had been reported for making threats.
Jorge Aguilar, police spokesperson, detailed that neighbors alerted about a man who was consuming alcoholic beverages at a store and intimidating neighbors with a firearm.
2 PNC agents were sent to the location with the purpose of identifying him and verifying the report. The person opposed the procedure and, without saying a word, drew his weapon and fired at the officers.
In a video captured by security cameras and shared on the social media channels of Bahía FM radio, officers are seen arriving on a motorcycle and attempting to subdue the individual, but he resists until reaching the asphalt, where he is struck by a vehicle, causing one of the officers to fall.
The spokesperson for the National Civil Police of Guatemala, Jorge Aguilar, details how the incident occurred in which an officer was wounded by gunfire and a suspect died.

Persecution and death
Between several police officers, they managed to bring him under control. However, at the time of his arrest, he died of cardiac arrest, as confirmed by the PNC, following an analysis by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif).

The now deceased has not been identified. It was reported that it is a male person approximately 1.60 meters tall, dark complexion, black hair, and a heavy build.
The officer wounded by gunfire was identified as José Eliseo Chuá Raymundo and was immediately transported to a medical facility; the other police officer suffered an injury to his right hand during the struggle and was also taken to a medical facility.

Officers injured in the line of duty
Between 2025 and 2026, at least 10 officers were wounded by firearm projectiles, while 9 have died in the line of duty, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior.
Most of the attacks against the agents occurred in January of this year following the takeover of the Renovación I maximum-security prison.
Criminal structures of the Barrio 18 gang carried out coordinated attacks in several parts of the country, which took place in zones 11, 13, and 18 of Guatemala City, as well as in the municipalities of Villa Nueva and Villa Canales.
