Santo Domingo. – The president, Luis Abinader, affirmed that the Dominican Republic is consolidating, at a regional level, as a leader in the manufacturing of medical devices, electrical and electronic products, thus motivating the establishment in the country of leading companies worldwide.
Among the factors driving this leadership, the Head of State cited the country's strategic location, close to consumer markets, as well as political, social and macroeconomic stability, and a solid legal framework and tax incentives.
During the Week with the Press, the president pointed out that, to date, the medical device industry is the main export item of the country, with 42 companies operating in the national free zones, while the electrical and electronic appliances sector is in third place.

In 2024, exports of medical equipment reached US$2.8 billion and represent 33.4% of free zone exports and 22.2% of total exports. The accumulated investment in the sector amounted to USD 1,940.4 million by 2024, which is 25.1% of the total investments registered in free zones.
