Indotel benefits 1,000 residents of Santo Domingo Norte with the Digital Social Basket 3.0

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), through its Telecommunications Development Fund (FDT), carried out a delivery of the Digital Social Basket Program 3.0, in Santo Domingo Norte, benefiting 1,000 residents in different communities of that demarcation, with the aim of providing them with a program for the proper use of new technologies, a mobile device and mobile internet subsidy and calls for 24 months, which will allow them to improve socially and economically. The beneficiaries of this phase belong to the sectors La Victoria, Sábana Perdida, Guaricanos, Villa Mella, Guanuma, Hacienda Estrella and Los Castillos, where the institution will implement this initiative aimed at expanding access to technological tools and strengthening the digital skills of the population. The event, which took place at the Multiusos of Sabana Perdida, was led by the president of the Board of Directors of Indotel, Guido Gómez Mazara, who highlighted that digital inclusion requires not only access to devices and connectivity, but also the development of capabilities that allow people to take advantage of technologies in a productive way and that it be the engine of transformation of their lives. “The Digital Social Basket program represents an opportunity for beneficiaries to develop new skills, undertake ventures, and achieve greater economic independence through the use of technology”, affirmed Gómez Mazara, highlighting that this initiative will continue to expand throughout the country to make the Indotel slogan a reality: placing technology at the service of the people. From her side, the mayor of Santo Domingo Norte, Betty Gerónimo, indicated the importance of the program's arrival, and valued the impact that the initiative will have on reducing the digital divide and generating new opportunities for training, entrepreneurship, and internet access for a thousand citizens.

“We are going to have more than a thousand women and men benefiting from internet access, electronic devices and training that will open the doors to new opportunities to undertake, learn and continue growing,” he emphasized.

Likewise, the young entrepreneur of the municipality, Betty Peña, highlighted the importance of the initiative and expressed that "when a person receives a device, they receive connectivity, training and a door opens for them, a door to a universe that is governing today, which is the digital one, to study better, to access information, to communicate safely, to seek opportunities, to undertake and advance with greater dignity and in communities like ours."

The project includes a full subsidy of the mobile connectivity service for two years, the delivery of Honor X5C 128 GB smartphones, a SIM card activated with a monthly plan of 200 minutes and 20 GB of data, as well as digital literacy material, a bundle, and a welcome and commitment letter. The service activation will be carried out immediately during the in-person delivery days. With this day, Indotel and the FDT continue to execute actions aimed at bringing technology closer to communities with structural access limitations, promoting digital equity and social development through the use of Information and Communication Technologies. This program aims to strengthen the basic digital skills of at least 60% of the participants, promote entrepreneurship, teleworking, and facilitate access to digital government services, thus contributing to territorial equity, social inclusion, and the sustainable development of the country's most vulnerable communities. Gómez Mazara was accompanied at the event by, on behalf of Indotel, the member of the Board of Directors, Juan Taveras Hernández, the director of Human Management, Juan Alberto Liranzo; the Administrative Director, Mayra Cochón; the coordinator of the FDT, Giselle Dipp, among other collaborators and directors of the institution. Also participating in the event were the senior business manager of Altice Dominicana, Gerardo Tejera; the B2B vice president of the company, Mauricio Salazar; the director of the fire department division of the Ministry of Interior and Police, Eladio Rodríguez, among other special guests especiales.
