International Day of Forests: call to protect the planet's lungs

Every March 21st, the International Day of Forests is commemorated, a date dedicated to highlighting the importance of forest ecosystems and promoting their conservation against the threats of climate change and deforestation.

Forests cover approximately one-third of the Earth's surface and are essential for life on the planet. They act as climate regulators, produce oxygen, store carbon, and harbor a great diversity of animal and plant species. In addition, they are a source of livelihood for millions of people around the world. However, these ecosystems face serious challenges due to indiscriminate logging, forest fires, and agricultural expansion. The loss of forests significantly contributes to global warming and environmental degradation. The United Nations has urged countries to implement sustainable policies that ensure the protection and restoration of forests, as well as to promote responsible practices in the use of natural resources. In the Dominican Republic, various entities develop reforestation days and educational programs with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of preserving forest resources.
