United Nations.- Iran's ambassador to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, accused the Security Council on Tuesday of turning a blind eye to the war in the Middle East and said the organization is trying to "reward the aggressor".
"It is deeply regrettable that the Security Council continues to remain silent. It is turning a blind eye to this serious violation, despite its primary responsibility, under the UN Charter, to maintain international peace and security," the ambassador told the press.
The Iranian said that some UN members are trying to "reverse roles" through a "biased and politically motivated" resolution.
"They seek to reward the aggressor and punish the victims," he asserted. "If the resolution is adopted, the aggressor, Israel and the United States, will be rewarded and emboldened to carry out new acts of aggression. Today it's Iran, tomorrow it could be any other sovereign state," he added.
The ambassador urged the international community to act to stop this "bloody war" against the Iranian people and asked all member states to "condemn this aggression and take urgent measures".
Iran's accusations against Israel and the U.S.
The Iranian detailed some of the "crimes" committed by the United States and Israel in these eleven days of war to demonstrate that "they show no respect for international law or any restraint."
"They are deliberately and indiscriminately attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure throughout my country," he declared.
The diplomat reviewed some of the bombings launched against his country which, he said, have affected more than "1,300 civilians, have destroyed 9,669 civilian facilities", including homes, medical facilities, "65 schools and educational institutions" and Red Cross buildings.
«The world is witnessing how an irresponsible State, along with an illegitimate regime, is attacking Iranian schools, hospitals, residential buildings, infrastructure, sports centers and relief facilities. These attacks have already claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children», he denounced.
In addition, the ambassador labeled the assassination of four Iranian diplomats who were in a hotel in Beirut, which Israel bombed last Sunday, as a "terrorist attack and war crime".
The war goes beyond Iranian borders
Since last Saturday, February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched a joint attack against Iran, which ended the life of its then supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the bombings on the country have not ceased.
The Persian country responded by bombing countries in the region where Washington has military bases.
The UN Security Council committee was scheduled to hold a session this Tuesday on sanctions against the Iranian nuclear program, but it was finally postponed.
