EFE.- Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed “until further notice” and that any foreign interference to open an “illegal route” in the region will receive a forceful response, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported early this Sunday.
The armed group stated -in a statement- that the decision was made after several vessels ignored the warning to transit exclusively through an authorized zone.
According to information released by IRIB, a vessel endangered maritime security, so the Revolutionary Guard navy detained it after firing warning shots.
The authorities stated that they will not allow the passage of vessels while United States interference in the Strait of Hormuz continues and that this determination will remain in effect “until further notice“.
The informative note also indicates that any U.S. action against Iran will receive a firm response, which includes attacks against enemy bases in the region.

The announcement came hours after its Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, accused the U.S. of having “violated paragraph 9 of the memorandum of understanding” between both parties, with Washington’s decision to impose new sanctions against the inner circle of the Iranian supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
According to Araghchi, the U.S. “non-compliance” with the agreement “adds to other violations and mistakes” by the North American country.
The U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 to end the war, unblock the Strait of Hormuz, and open negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. However, in recent days, there have been new cross-attacks in the Middle East.
