Jesse & Joy reveal their most intimate side in the documentary "Lo que nunca dijimos"

Brothers Jesse and Joy Huerta opened the doors to their family and personal history in the documentary "Jesse and Joy: What We Never Said", an original production of HBO Max, which premiered on September 25 on the platform. Mexican-born artists narrate, through four chapters, unpublished details of their lives marked by love, forgiveness, resilience, their father's narcissism, and the healing power of music.

"The beautiful thing about all this is that we are still together. It's a story of success, love, courage, forgiveness, and resilience," the artists expressed at the beginning of the documentary when referring to the project that allowed them to review their past and further strengthen their fraternal bond.

The documentary delves into the origins of the performers of "Corre" and "¿Con quién se queda el perro?", especially focusing on the difficult relationship with their father, Eduardo Huerta, an evangelical pastor who exerted strict authority at home, but who was also key in the development of their artistic career.

“Dad was the one who pushed me. One day he asked me: ‘Do you like the drums? Start playing’ I was 6 years old. If he hadn't pushed me, we wouldn't have achieved anything”, recalled Jesse.

Joy, for her part, confessed that her adolescence was marked by the desire for independence and questioning of a pastor father and head of the church who made her life a religious routine that could not fail.

"Yes, it is necessary to go back to the past to heal the present. This project helped us understand the other's point of view and forgive," Joy stated.

Although Eduardo Huerta passed away in 2013, his children remember him with gratitude.

“I know that Dad tried to improve many things that he experienced, he repeated others, and in the end I see him with a lot of love and gratitude,” said Jesse.

The premiere of the documentary coincides with a period of great achievements for the duo, who were recently nominated for a Latin Grammy for their album "Lo que nos faltó decir", written during filming and in the midst of an international tour.

“It wasn't something we were looking for. We were so in instinct mode, doing what we love, that everything flowed naturally. Each with their things, their relationships and battles,” explained Joy.

With “Jesse & Joy: What We Never Said,” the artists invite their followers to join them on a deep journey through their family history, their challenges, and the transformative power of music. The production is available on HBO Max for Latin America and the Hispanic audience in the United States since September 25.
