Bonao, Monseñor Nouel.– The political leader Johnny Alfredo Jones Luciano called for the Dominican Republic to maintain a firm stance in the face of the Haitian migration crisis, considering that the country cannot continue to assume the consequences of institutional deterioration in the neighboring nation.
During his speech at the 1st Regional Blitz Chess Tournament 7+3, held at the Falcondo Club in Bonao, Jones expressed that the irregular migration from Haiti represents an unsustainable burden on national resources.
“We have a social burden, a health burden, a political burden that we cannot continue to bear. We deeply regret the tragedy of our Haitian brothers and sisters, but in a humane way, we can do nothing but defend the development of our nation,” he stated.

The also recognized community leader supported the actions implemented by the Dominican Government, highlighting the management of President Luis Abinader in international forums and the recent political concertation at the national level.
“I believe that the work has been done correctly. The recent meeting of the leaders of the main political organizations of the country, along with former presidents, is a clear example of what a joint policy can be. We are on the right track,” he expressed.
Jones also praised recent statements by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio before the Organization of American States (OAS), who urged urgent action on the Haitian crisis.
“What Marco Rubio has said is fundamental. The OAS must act now. Part of President Abinader's success has been precisely to insist on all international forums. With the support of figures like Trump and Rubio, a response has begun to be obtained. We are gaining ground in the most important aspect of Haitian migration,” he pointed out.
Beyond the political arena, Johnny Jones positively valued the chess tournament, highlighting its formative impact on the youth of Bonao and its potential as a tool for intellectual development. His presence at the event was well received by the attendees, in a day that combined the sport of science with social commitment.
