Santo Domingo.– The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, presented the balance of his first six months of management, a period in which the institution promoted a series of actions aimed at strengthening the Public Health Network, expanding the response capacity of hospitals, and consolidating more timely, efficient, and humanized care for the population.
Landrón highlighted that one of the main results of this administration was the historic record of 25,395,290 specialized services provided between January and June 2026, the highest production achieved by the Public Health Network in a first semester.
The head of the SNS explained that this result is due to the strengthening of hospital management, permanent monitoring of performance indicators, the equipping of hospitals and Clinical and Diagnostic Primary Care Centers, and coordinated work with the nine Regional Health Services.
Among the main achievements reached, he highlighted the strengthening of the First Level of Care, with actions aimed at increasing the resolution capacity of health facilities to bring services closer to communities and reduce the need for referrals to hospitals of greater complexity.

Likewise, he highlighted the expansion of the National Mental Health Network, which currently has 47 Crisis Intervention Units and 300 specialized beds for patients in crisis, as part of the institutional goal of reaching 500 beds before the end of the year.
Another of the advances presented corresponds to the strengthening of the National Trauma Network, which went from three to five specialized trauma hospitals with the incorporation of the centers in Higüey and Azua, while work continues for the commissioning of new hospitals in Sosúa and San Cristóbal.
Landrón also announced the implementation of the National Trauma Network Mapping, a technological platform that will allow for real-time knowledge of the availability of beds, specialists, and hospital resources to optimize the response to emergencies throughout the national territory.
Regarding emergency infrastructure, he reported that the SNS continues to strengthen the National Heliport Network with facilities enabled at the Dra. Evangelina Rodríguez Perozo Health City, Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City, Juan Bosch Hospital in La Vega, Pedro Emilio Marchena Hospital in Bonao, and Ángel Contreras Hospital in Monte Plata, in addition to other strategic works in development.
During his speech, the director of the SNS also highlighted the progress made in maternal and child health indicators. He noted that during the first quarter of 2026, the country recorded a 57.5% reduction in maternal mortality, 21% in infant mortality, and 18% in neonatal mortality, while infant mortality maintains a cumulative decrease of 9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the field of prevention, he highlighted the strengthening of the Chequéate RD program, an initiative promoted by First Lady Raquel Arbaje for the early detection of breast, cervical, and prostate cancer. He reported that the program has benefited more than 136,000 people through evaluations carried out in hospitals and mobile clinics developed throughout the country.
When referring to the results achieved, Landrón stated that the management will continue to focus on transparency, the humanization of services, and the permanent strengthening of the Public Health Network.
“These first six months demonstrate that when there is planning, teamwork, and commitment to the people, results follow. We will continue to strengthen the Public Health Network to offer increasingly timely, efficient, and humane services to the entire Dominican population,” he expressed.
The executive director thanked the commitment of the medical, nursing, bioanalysis, technical staff, and administrative collaborators of the Public Health Network, to whom he attributed the results achieved during this management period.
