Lima.- Right-wing politician Keiko Fujimori will receive her credentials as president-elect of Peru for the 2026-2031 term this Wednesday, which will be presented to her in an official ceremony by the National Jury of Elections (JNE).
The ceremony, prior to the inauguration that will be held on July 28, Peru’s independence day, will take place starting at 11:30 local time (16:30 GMT) at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, located in the San Borja district.
In the solemn session, which will close the entire process of the elections that were held on April 12 with a presidential runoff on June 7, credentials will also be presented to Fujimori’s first and second vice presidents, Luis Galarreta and Miguel Torres, respectively.
As reported by the JNE, the event will be led by the president of the highest Peruvian electoral body, Roberto Burneo, and will be attended by the other four members of the plenary.
The presidential ticket of the Fuerza Popular party was proclaimed on July 3rd as the winner of the presidential runoff, which it contested against the Juntos por el Perú party, led by leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez.

The JNE detailed that in those elections Fujimori received 9,223,396 votes, while Sánchez reached 9,173,755 votes.
That day, Burneo stated that this year’s general elections represented “one of the greatest democratic, organizational, and institutional challenges” in Peru’s recent history, having counted on the participation of 35 presidential tickets and two electoral days.

“Democracy does not end with elections; it continues with respect for the results and the validity of electoral institutions. May this act symbolize not only the culmination of an electoral process, but also the beginning of a stage of dialogue, stability, and commitment to Peru,” he stated.

After her proclamation, Fujimori stated that she accepted her election as president “with deep gratitude” to the millions of Peruvians who voted for her and also “with responsibility, humility, and a deep sense of duty.”
The daughter and political heir of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) has become the first woman to be elected president of Peru by direct suffrage of her compatriots, as her predecessor Dina Boluarte held the head of state position between 2022 and 2025 through constitutional succession, having been the vice president of the ousted Pedro Castillo (2021-2022).
