Santo Domingo.- The LASO Foundation Blood Donor Network commemorates its fifth anniversary, having established itself as one of the leading initiatives for promoting voluntary blood donation in the Dominican Republic, following five years of work aimed at educating, connecting, and mobilizing citizens in support of this cause.
The organization emerged in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic as a response to the difficulties that numerous families faced in finding donors and accessing blood in a timely manner for medical treatments, surgeries, and emergencies.
Since its creation, the Network has developed educational campaigns, donation drives, conferences, and institutional alliances aimed at strengthening the culture of voluntary donation in the country, impacting thousands of people.
The founder of Fundación LASO, Lorenny Solano, highlighted that the main objective of the initiative has been to contribute to ensuring that no person loses their life due to a lack of blood, promoting solidarity as a tool to save lives.

One of the organization’s most important milestones occurred in November 2021 with the holding of a major National Blood Donation Day at Downtown Center, led by President Luis Abinader, who participated as a donor and publicly supported the initiative.

In addition to awareness campaigns, the Network has promoted projects focused on the modernization of the national blood system. Among them is a proposal for the transport of blood and blood derivatives by drones, developed in coordination with national and international institutions, as well as a digital traceability project to monitor the availability and utilization of blood units in real time.
As part of their innovation efforts, representatives of the LASO Foundation have conducted exchanges and technical visits to specialized centers in Israel, considered among the most advanced blood bank systems in the world, with the goal of learning about successful models and adapting them to the Dominican reality.
The organization also promotes an agenda aimed at strengthening the national blood system, which includes the creation of new blood banks, the implementation of technological tools for donation management, and the strengthening of programs to promote voluntary donation.

In the framework of its anniversary, the LASO Foundation expressed its gratitude for the support received from public institutions, private companies, international organizations, and citizens who have supported the initiative since its creation.
The entity reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting actions that contribute to ensuring safe and available blood for those who need it, strengthening a culture of solidarity and social responsibility throughout the country.
