Santo Domingo. - Legislators from the National Congress showed their support for the imposition of sanctions on the company Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), as warned by President Luis Abinader, in case of negligence is proven. In that sense, the deputy of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Gustavo Sánchez, indicated that the concessionaire must give explanations for the "neglect" that caused chaos and affected the country's image internationally. "Allowing the Dominican Republic not to be a safe destination for aviation leaves much to be desired, so putting the airport administration service in the hands of an irresponsible company like AERODOM, I feel that there should be some consequence," Sánchez expressed. Likewise, the senator for Puerto Plata, Ginette Bournigal, who opposed the renewal of the contract with AERODOM, condemned that in a situation like this there was no prevention plan. "I think AERODOM should be obligated to have all these things planned, apart from the fact that our departments had to issue a statement disassociating themselves from that and they didn't, so we have to demand it from AERODOM," Bournigal indicated. He pointed out that the lack of energy is "total responsibility" of AERODOM. For her part, Senator Aracelis Villanueva expressed that she hopes that, when responsibilities are determined, if there were criminal hands, the full weight of the law will be applied. "As President Luis Abinader said, if it was sabotage and there were malicious hands that caused this failure, then they simply have to fulfill their responsibility, whoever it may be, let the full weight of the law be applied," Villanueva pointed out.
