Punta Cana.- Argentina and top seed Luisina Giovannini advanced to the semifinals of the W35 Punta Cana Tournament, which is held for two consecutive weeks with players from 22 countries, at the Vilas academy, in the Ocean El Faro Hotel, in Uvero Alto.
Giovannini, who has not disappointed her favorite status so far, advanced after winning in the singles quarterfinals against American Madison Sieg, with a score of 7-5 6-2, in a match held this Friday.
While the Indian and third favorite, Sahaja Yamalapalli, defeated the Mexican María Portillo, by 6-4 7-6(5), to continue advancing in the tournament.
American Madison Brengle defeated Frenchwoman Sophia Biolay, with 6-1 6-4, to reach the semi-final.
Finally, the German and two of the tournament, Katharina Hobgarski, defeated the Polish and seven of the tournament, Weronika Falkowska with sets of 6-2 6-4.
The semi-final matches this Saturday start from 10 in the morning.
In the doubles modality, the final is played, not before 1:30 in the afternoon.
The tournament distributes 30 thousand dollars. The director is Sergio Sabadello, with Jimi Cardona as referee, assisted by Francisco de los Santos.
The event awards 35 points to the champion, 23 to the finalist, 14 to the semi-finalist, 8 points to the quarter-finalists, and 4 to the round of 16.
